Use Camera with portable monitorsUpdated 16 hours ago

UPERFECT monitors, known for the plug-and-play convenience, sharp visuals, and wide compatibility, are becoming a good choice for many creators. But just how well do these monitors work with cameras?

Let’s break down the camera-to-monitor compatibility and explore the best ways to connect your camera to a portable monitor.

Camera and Monitor Compatibility Overview

Up until now, to connect your camera to a UPERFECT monitor, there are two key things to check:

  • 1. Your camera needs to have an HDMI output.
  • 2. It should be able to output at 60Hz.

If you’re not sure whether your camera meets these, or if it doesn’t have an HDMI port, there might still be some options you can try.

Note: However, please also note that some cameras with HDMI ports that do not support 60Hz output may be incompatible with our monitors. Additionally, we cannot guarantee that all cameras with HDMI ports will be compatible with our monitors. Therefore, the following table and methods only serve as a possible reference.

The most important factor in camera-to-monitor compatibility is the video output signal. UPERFECT monitors use HDMI and USB-C input as the standard for video, but many cameras don't support video output through their USB-C ports, so your camera must be able to output video via HDMI (Mini or Micro) or have an adapter that converts to HDMI.

Here’s a general overview of how different types of cameras may be compatible with UPERFECT portable monitors:

Camera TypeVideo Output PortCompatible with UPERFECT Monitor?Notes
DSLR / MirrorlessMini HDMILikely YesUsually use Mini/Micro HDMI → HDMI cable.
Most models support clean HDMI without overlays.
Industrial CamerasHDMI / SDI / AVPossiblyHDMI generally works directly.
SDI/AV may require an SDI→HDMI or AV→HDMI converter.
Action CamerasMicro HDMI (via Media Mod accessory)PossiblyUSB-C typically supports only data/power, not video output.
You may need to install the Media Mod to enable Micro HDMI output.

Note: The above table is a theoretical reference based on whether your camera supports HDMI video output and has not been tested in practice.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Clean HDMI Output: Ensure your camera supports clean HDMI output (i.e., no overlays like battery icons or focus boxes).
  • Power Supply: Some cameras and monitors may need their own power source. UPERFECT monitors can be powered via USB-C PD if they don't have a built-in battery.
  • Resolution and Refresh Rate: UPERFECT monitors currently support HDMI input with up to 1080p resolution at 60Hz. Make sure your camera’s HDMI output matches the supported resolution of your monitor.
